One Thing That I Do: Weight Lifting

The owner of my gym sports his “This is What I Do” tee shirt…

“Pain is temporary.
It may last a minute,
or an hour, or a day,
or a year, but
eventually it will
subside and something
will take it’s place.
If I quit, however,
it lasts forever…”

Today was leg day in the gym. This is the day I once dreaded. This is the day that I would usually make every excuse not to workout. This is the day that if I convinced myself I couldn’t face it, I just wouldn’t do it. Sometime back I changed. I guess you could say that I made a firm decision to push myself to the limit. It isn’t just a physical thing, but I decided to push myself beyond that which I had convinced myself I could handle.

Today I ran one mile and completed 6 monster sets for a total of 600 reps in under one hour. My boss has a saying that you could say has sort of rubbed off on me “just knock it out!” At one point I wondered if I was “sinking them” on the leg press, and I was so zoned out that the sled actually bottomed out while I was contemplating that. I heard the metal to metal over the music blaring through my hot pink headphones. I was sinking them alright! Someone I didn’t take the time to identify said these three things: today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can do what others can’t; set standards, not limits; and you have got only three choices in life… Give up, give in, or give it all you’ve got!

On the way out of the gym- I laughed when I saw the owner’s tee shirt. I asked him if I could snap a shot and he obliged. Lifting weights—— it is what I do, but it is just one of the things I do to keep my mind and my body on the right track!!!

I was wondering where you got that tshirt from. I would love to buy my husband one for his bday. He just turned 44 and hit his first goal of benching 450lbs. His next goal is benching 500lbs by his 50th bday. I know he would love that shirt. Thank you.

Wow! Nice… 500 by 50??? Good one! That was a shirt the owner of my gym was wearing. I would bet he got it for free with some supplements? You can make your husband one- just use a white tee and and iron on transfer. I can make you an image if you don’t have a graphics program. Let me know! When is his bday?
