Yes!!! Danni pulled through as The Biggest Loser on the Live Finale. She was absolutely smokin’ in a hot dress and nude heels.
Today on a special featuring an interview with Ronda Rousey, someone said…
“No body becomes
a fighter because
they have an easy life.”
Ronda Rousey rocked it out yet again in the 1st round of UFC® 157. She made Liz Carmouche submit with her deadly arm bar. This has become her signature death move!
It was the 1st night for women in the UFC, it was Rousey’s 1st time defending her title, and it was over in the 1st round for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. Absolutely awesome!!
I can’t wait until Saturday night. On February 23, the world will watch as the 1st women rock the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The main event of UFC® 157 will feature Rousey ~vs~ Carmouche at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Rousey “the trash talker” is the 1st and current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. She was also a Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion.
I put it all down for Ronda Rousey. She will take Liz Carmouche to the floor with some Judo or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on Saturday night. “Rowdy” Rousey is an American Olympian from Cali. If you look up her pictures you may think this bombshell can’t possibly drop bombs~ but think again! She is straight awesomeness and has won medals for the Olympic and other games (bronze, silver and gold).
Kim Kardashian is lucky she’s pregnant right?! She only heard about the Queen of arm bars talkin’ trash. I don’t think Kimmy would want to feel the Rousey “strikeforce” of the 1st woman signed by the UFC! I’m just sayin’~ Ronda’s awesome…strong women rock!! Don’t let her beauty fool you.

Tonight The Biggest Loser tackled fears and focused on finding “inner health.” Fear can hold us back from optimum fitness. The fear of failure, fear of the unknown, and fear of change forever lurk, but it is critical to push through. Here’s to the awesome leg workout I got today!! Just pushin’ on through!

It isn’t everyday that I get a chance to interview someone while I am in the gym. With a short amount of time and so much to do it is difficult if not impossible to even speak! I almost always opt to deliver a quick wave “hi” to those I know while my headphones blast into my ears. One day last week I took the time to have an interview with Barbara Massey. She mentioned that she had recently won an award, so I thought she should be acknowledged for that. While we huffed and puffed on the treadmill, I tapped into the hidden history of this inspiring woman.
For over a decade I have know Barbara. Honestly, since I do very little talking at the gym I have never had a good chance to get to know her on a more personal level. I have been using my web site to feature people who I feel have an interesting story to tell. This is a great way to bring personal stories to a collective audience in a unique way. While I was a journalist, this was always the kind of writing I enjoyed most. This gives me a chance to learn, while honoring the accomplishments of those who deserve to be recognized. And so begins the story of Barbara Massey who recently received a part-time staff Excellence Award from the Santa Fe Community College.
Barbara is a personal trainer here in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I see her almost everyday as she attempts to whip men and woman into shape. I think that her awesome personality has made her a good fit for many of her clients. She is easy going, but teaches her clients about strict form and proper nutrition. It is no surprise that this former California surfer girl also ran track, pushed through marathons, studied dance, and fought real fires. The epitome of inner strength and fitness, Barb competed in her first body building competition when she was in her mid 40s. She was almost a decade older than I am at that time and so it is short of amazing that she was in such beautiful shape.
The first personal memories I have of Barbara are tied to Body Pump. Several years ago a group of Santa Feans decided to take classes to become certified Body Pump trainers. I guess we had a wild hair! The weight-based program has a focus on group fitness. The program is sponsored by Les Mills International, but was created by Phillip Mills in 1991. The classes are 60 minutes long and work eight muscle groups while listening to predetermined music tracks. The classes were instructed using free weights and barbells, so Barbara was a natural fit. I don’t believe that Body Pump had anything on her American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certificate, and her American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certificate.
Excellence Awards are given to people who are excellent for a reason. Barbara Massey is genuine a model of inner strength and fitness. For a woman in her 60s she is a cut above the rest. Not only does she strive to enhance the lives of her clients, but she also makes every effort to improve herself. All of these things make Barbara a special woman who is worthy of our recognition.
When amazing voices collide you are watching the live finale of The Voice. The season 3 finale included a star studded list of sheer awesomeness!!! There were so many good performances in the two hour long show. I love me some music. The last three “voices” standing in the competition belonged to Terry McDermott, Cassadee Pope (the winner), and Nicholas David (my favorite who didn’t win).
Rihanna flawlessly performed “Diamonds.” She is very connected to that song and it is obviously about someone she cares deeply for. Rihanna put her heart into that performance. I could literally feel the emotion in her smokin’ lyrics. Of course the “diamonds” in this song are not really diamonds, but the word is symbolic of something worth a lot or maybe even priceless and rare. The “diamonds” represent stars~ or more precisely what lovers create when stars collide.
Nicolas David and Smokey Robinson’s performance of “Crusin’” was good. Still~ the best rendition of that song goes to D’Angelo~ hands down.
My man Adam (Maroon 5′s frontman~lyrical genius~and my tattooed super hero) was highlighted as a multi-talented musician. He was rockin’ his Dr. Dre headphones~ no doubt professional grade. Nice…
Terry McDermott performed “Baby I Love Your Ways” with Peter Frampton and that was an ok performance.
Rascal Flatts was in the remote spotlight to sing Happy Birthday to Mz. Christina.
Bruno Mars performed~ but I really wish it would have been “Locked Out of Heaven” and not “When I was Your Man.” (right Marlene??
)
Nicholas David performed “End of the Road” by Boys II Men, an old school favorite of mine. He opted to perform with Trevon, Amanda and Dez.
Season 4 of The Voice will feature Usher and Shakira as new coaches. It is sad to see Christina and CeeLo go, but the addition of Usher is sweet!! I can’t wait for season 4!
This month will go down in history. This month my sister Katelin and other ladies from the Pojoaque Valley sliced their way through several volleyball teams to bring home a trophy and two MVP medals. The Elkettes were part of the 2-day~ Penasco Invitational Volleyball Tournament. The tournament took place in Penasco, New Mexico from September 7 thru September 8, 2012. On the first day of the tournament the ladies had a pool play, which is used to establish the bracket. Even on the day of the pool play the Elkettes showed up on top- yes- number 1 on the bracket!
After making it through the quarter finals and the semi-finals the town of Penasco received a message. The message was loud and clear from the PHS Junior Varsity team players. They were on their game and they were fit to take the finals from a varsity team in a varsity tournament. I am sure that by this time, Escalante was second guessing the offensive movements of their setter. My sister Katelin’s position is setter. I was so happy to hear that out of 8 teams and close to 100 ladies, Katelin was one of 6 to receive a Most Valuable Player (MVP) medal for this tournament. She was selected by a team of coaches and refs.
You know I had to ask what Kate listens to to get her game face on? (even thought I know~but for the record
). I mean which beats get her going? She quickly rattled off a list of her favorite artists with Lil Wayne on top as usual! She said that his song “My Homies Still” gets her going, but she also liked to listen to 2Chainz, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and Waka Flocka. When you need to get focused, there is nothing like music to get you there!!
Our dad was proud to mention that Kate is the only player who plays the entire game as the setter. He said “everyone else rotates out.” I asked him why he thought it was important for her to be a part of a team and he said “because it keeps her mind sharp, it keeps her busy, it keeps her GPA up, and it keeps her physically fit.” Her mom Julie also added “I am very proud of her for being on the team and making MVP.” This flamin’ Lujan from Pojo is a Junior this year, but I am sure she is ready to bring the heat her senior year!

***How Fast Is Usain Bolt?***
“Usain Bolt is chasing living legend status, as the Jamaican sprinter arrives in London as the undisputed fastest man alive. ” —Graphic printed in Athlon Sports (July 2012)
Today the local newspaper had a special insert for the 2012 Olympics in London. There was a super cool graphic that I had to share. I can’t wait to see the opening ceremony on Friday. I have my eye on a few athletes that inspire me. Though I live in the United States, there are also a few other places I would like to see win. Team USA has me cheering on the super gymnast John Orozco of Colorado Springs, Colorado. I also like Sanya Richards-Ross of Austin, Texas. She is a Track and Field powerhouse. Of course I have to keep my eye on former Lobo Track Star Jarrin Solomon. Solomon will be representing Trinidad and Tobago though he lives in the United States and is from Albuquerque, New Mexico. He will do so to honor his father, who was also an athletic star. My final and absolute favorite to catch will be Usain Bolt the “World’s Fastest Man.”
Bolt will represent Jamaica. Maybe I should skip the pizza and hit the gym??? Hahahaa—- Can’t wait for feet, hands, and hearts to burn.

A ripped Holly Holm at her weigh in this week
for her June 15, 2012 match against the French
woman who beat her in 2011. Holm weighed in
at 146 ripped pounds. Muscle weighs more than
fat people!
Holm busted it for this killer body. Her
mind is sharp as well!! Training is not for the weak!
Albuquerque boxer Holly Holm won tonight in a unanimous decision in her rematch against Anne Sophie Mathis. The rematch against the French woman who beat her in December of 2011 happened at the Route 66 Casino. Holm has won 9 fights by TKO, and the woman she won tonight has won 22 fights by TKO! Winning this fight, gives Mz. Holly 3 women’s world welterweight titles (IBA, WBF and WBAN). She was absolutely ripped for her weigh in! She must have worked so hard. Holly rocks!!! Nice… Check out this super cool vid— A Day in the Life of Holly Holm. The opening quote is sweet. The video follows “Holly Holm in her hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico as she prepared for a welterweight fight in March of 2007.”
I like a really wide variety of music, and out of over a thousand gigz of data (a literal terabyte or more), I have to say that this may be one of the most inspirational songs to workout to. I downloaded it tonight in preparation for some cardio, chest and back tomorrow. The new Gym Class Heroes video titled “The Fighter” brings the sickness in the sickest ways. The lyrics are amazing (see below)- the best verse is when they sing “give me scars, give me pain.” Travie McCoy and Ryan Tedder of One Republic wrote an awesome song. This one will be a hit for the Olympics. The video features the Heroes who I love, as well as Tedder, and a Puerto Rican Olympic hopeful from the Bronx named John Orozco. The gymnast is fighting for his chance in the Olympics. Oroczo trains in the video Osmin Hernandez style proving that you do not need a gym or money to workout, only drive. Summer is here and it is again time to train until you collapse.

LYRICS
“The Fighter”
Gym Class Heroes feat. Ryan Tedder of One Republic
Just waking up in the morning
And to be well,
Quite honest with ya,
I ain’t really sleep well
Ya ever feel like your train of thought’s been derailed?
That’s when you press on – Lee nails
Half the population’s just waitin’ to see me fail
Yeah right, you’re better off trying to freeze hell
Some of us do it for the females
And others do it for the retail
But I do it for the kids, life threw the towel in on
Everytime you fall it’s only making your chin strong
And I’ll be in your corner like mick, baby, til the end
Or when you hear a song from that big lady
[Bridge]
Until the referee rings the bell
Until both your eyes start to swell
Until the crowd goes home
What we gonna do ya’ll?
[Chorus - Ryan Tedder]
Give em hell, turn their heads
Gonna live life til we’re dead.
Give me scars, give me pain
Then they’ll say of me, say of me, say of me
There goes the fighter, there goes the fighter
Here comes the fighter
That’s what they’ll say of me, say of me, say of me,
This one’s a fighter
[Verse 2]
And if I can last thirty rounds
There’s no reason you should ever have your head down
Six foot five, two hundred and twenty pounds
Hailing from rock bottom, loserville, nothing town
Text book version of a kid going nowhere fast
And now I’m yelling “kiss my ass”
It’s gonna take a couple right hooks, a few left jabs
For you to recognize you really ain’t got it bad
[Bridge]
Until the referee rings the bell
Until both your eyes start to swell
Until the crowd goes home
What we gonna do ya’ll?
[Chorus - Ryan Tedder]
Give em hell, turn their heads
Gonna live life til we’re dead.
Give me scars, give me pain
Then they’ll say of me, say of me, say of me
There goes the fighter, there goes the fighter
Here comes the fighter
That’s what they’ll say of me, say of me, say of me,
This one’s a fighter
Everybody put yo hands up
What we gonna do? [x7] ya’ll
If you fall pick yourself up off the floor (get up)
And when your bones can’t take no more (c’mon)
Just remember what you’re here for
Cuz I know Imma damn sure
Give em hell, turn their heads
Gonna live life til we’re dead.
Give me scars, give me pain
Then they’ll say of me, say of me, say of me
There goes the fighter, there goes the fighter
Here comes the fighter
That’s what they’ll say of me, say of me, say of me,
This one’s a fighter
‘Til the referee rings the bell
‘Til both ya eyes start to swell
‘Til the crowd goes home,
What we gonna do kid?
I was so excited to see a commercial on NBC today for the “30 Greatest NBC Olympic Moments.” These clips rock! Views are asked to vote for their top three. The web site says that we should “tune in to NBC on July 21 for the results of your favorite NBC Olympic moments.” Bolt has to make the top three. He is on there for his 2008 Track & Field performance. He set the World Record in the 100m. “The electrifying Jamaican won the first of three Beijing golds in the 100 meters, where Usain Bolt lowered his own world record to 9.69 seconds, a mark that would have been even lower had he not eased up late in the race, spreading his arms and thumping his chest in celebration.” You can go online to see the clips and vote at: http://www.nbcolympics.com/nbcmoments/— This year the games are in London!!! I can’t wait!

NBC gives Olympic fans a ‘live’ line on the Internet
Originally published online at http://www.BuffaloNews.com by Greg Connors
Last Wednesday, exactly 100 days before the Opening Ceremonies at the Summer Olympics in London, NBC relaunched its website NBCOlympics.com. What is newsworthy about that this year is that NBC, for the first time, will show every significant sporting event live online — even marquee events that will be featured later on prime-time television.
This is a departure for NBC, which has taken heat in the past for not giving viewers the chance to watch enough Olympics events live, as the network feared cannibalizing its viewing audience for the prime-time broadcasts. The issue has been particularly relevant here in Western New York, where we have the option of switching to Olympic coverage from the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., which has always placed a premium on live coverage. The CBC, obviously, focuses on Canadian athletes and teams, but it is a nice secondary choice for viewers in this neck of the woods.
NBC and its corporate overlords have made a smart decision this year by giving “live” fans what they want — online, at least — in a way that is likely going to add more viewers to its prime-time audience, not subtract.
The online stream of live events is going to be from the world TV feed, which is kind of a bare-bones broadcast, sometimes with no announcers to narrate the action. If you are a major fan of, say, women’s gymnastics, and the finals you’ve been waiting for are taking place at 3 in the afternoon Buffalo time, you have the option of following the broadcast feed from your computer, at home or work. (And remember, kids, always get permission from your boss before watching sports in the office).
Once an event is shown live, it will be not be archived on the website until after it has been shown on TV.
NBC is counting on the fact that, even knowing who won or lost, you will turn on the TV during prime time to watch gymnastics get the full treatment. (Unless you are a purist who will only watch live events, but that’s a pommel horse of a different color.) The network is always an easy target for critics because of the way it draws out the broadcasts of the most popular events, adding stories about the athletes’ lives and their road to the Games. But after watching the world TV feed online, most viewers will welcome the perspective and production values of the prime-time TV show.
“The biggest part of our Olympic pitch to the IOC is that the Olympics is not really about the sports that are showcased,” Alan Wurtzel, president of research and media development for NBC, told CNBC’s Darren Rovell. “It’s really about telling a story and packaging that story. Not many people would watch without that context.”
There’s one other aspect to NBC’s website launch that is sort of buried in the fine print. This year, viewing live content online requires a viewer to “authenticate” that he or she is a customer of a cable or satellite company, which requires logging in with the account number from one’s TV provider. That is to keep the “I don’t own a TV” crowd — and you know who you are — from helping themselves to the online content that costs money for the network to produce.
CBS did the same with its March Madness online package this year, requiring viewer authentication. Perhaps “information wants to be free,” as the old web credo says, but media companies — like most of us — want to get paid.
Trial TV
Fans of Olympic sports won’t have to wait until the Games begin in late July to start getting in the mood. NBC will televise a record 67 hours of Olympic Trials coverage this year, both on Channel 2 and on NBC Sports Network.
Jenn Suhr, the Fredonia native who won a silver medal in pole vaulting at the Beijing Games four years ago, will be among the competitors at the track and field trials in late June. NBC and NBCSN will air live coverage from Oregon on June 22-24 and June 28 to July 1.
Suhr, the top-ranked woman in the world, will need to finish among the top three in the U.S. trials in order to secure a spot in London.
