Don’t Expect Respect
I recently read an article by a woman who listed her gym gripes. She was a professional fitness trainer. One of her complaints was that people needed to listen to their headphones so no one could hear them. That was the only complaint I found funny. You know what I say to that? “Make me!!”
Respect is “a deep feeling of admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities or achievements.” Julius Erving once once said “I firmly believe that respect is a lot more important, and a lot greater than popularity.” Maybe my gym habits don’t score me any friends, but I don’t care.
For most…I give respect when I get it. When you are near me in the gym, don’t expect me to smile, don’t expect me to talk, and (*really*) don’t expect me to turn my music down or move out of your way. Above all, don’t expect respect. If you want it, earn it!!
