My Lil Hillerman Interview

September 19, 2015

————————————–
This interview is from the 2014 conference. It just went up on the Wordharvest channel on YouTube this week, so I wanted to share it. I’m honored to have my interview footage alongside those of several famous and infamous authors. Unfortunately, the sun was in my eyes, so I’m squinting through the whole thing!

Coincidentally, the video footage was edited by a guy from my gym. He recognized me and told my boss he knew me. He knows me from a very different world LoL. He was proly like… “is this the same gal? Hummm?” I never knew he did stuff like this. I guess you never know what iron lovers do on their spare time eh?

I’m looking forward to the 2015 conference. The author of Longmire will be there to talk about the move to NetFlix, which is awesome!!! I loved meeting him even though I don’t love any cowboys. Maybe I’ll ask him if he killed off Chase since I’ve only watched the first episode. I thought it was kinda symbolic in my real world.

No Weak Dainty Toy

April 8, 2015

You gotta love the Harley Quinn web series that Imagination Upgraded is creating as promised! I absolutely love it!! You see her alter ego surface when Dr. Quinzel is physically threatened. She says… “What you want? What about what I want big boy?” This series is awesome! The best line in part 1?? “I ain’t some damsel in distress needing a man to save me. I ain’tcha toy. I ain’t dainty and I ain’t weak! You let them know that! Wouldja?”

When It’s Real…It Hurts

A Stone to Remember

Yesterday I went to see The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. Of course it was good. What’s not to like about the mystically twisted stories born from Tolkien’s mind? There were a few core themes in this movie, but I felt the most prevalent was loss. There were several losses in this story.

image

DO NOT TAKE HIM FROM ME

The only moment which drew a tear from my eye were two moments between Tauriel and Kili. The elf and dwarf have had a star-crossed history throughout Tolkien’s writings. Lost love is always tragic. Loss is not a surprising theme which surfaces to anyone familiar with the author. Loss was experienced by Tolkien during World War I and he wrote these stories during World War II.

Legolas, Prince of the Woodland clearly loves Tauriel though she loves another. It is admirable that his character was written to support her unconditionally given this circumstance. Tauriel’s elven family doubts her love for Kili the dwarf archer, but when he dies in her arms at the end, all doubt disappears with her tears. I cried during his death.

“If this is love…take it from me, please. I do not want it. Why does it hurt so bad?”
Tauriel, head of the Elven guard

“Because it was real.”
Thranduil, the Elven King

Highlights of the Day: Tony Hillerman Writers Conference 2014 (Nov.6)

~CB McKenzie and Felicia. He wanted me to hold the ad I designed for him.~

It was a long day, but it was a good day! I spent the day learning, networking, and documenting. Here is a chronological look at my highlights:

8’ish~ I received an awesome text from my friend. It read… “Hey there busy lady! Have a wonderful hillerman conference! U never cease to amaze me with your endless energy and enthusiasm. U r an inspiration!! Can’t wait to hear all about it…” I can’t tell you how good it is to have people who show they care about me in my life. I’m lucky to have met her.

8’ish~ I received an email from author CB McKenzie. He said he was in Santa Fe and wanted to meet with me before leaving town.

10’ish~ Heard lots of good things about my program design.

1’ish~ Happened to see my favorite cabinet secretary, who is also on the commission for my agency at the conference headquarters. He was there for some meeting and we chatted for a while. I told him about my “other life” as a writer and creative force. I loved that he wanted to steal me away to go work for him at State Printing after I showed him the program I designed. I assured him that I loved my career in the archives and had no plans to leave.

3’ish~ The best writing teacher I have ever known, Sandi Ault, complimented me. She liked a super short piece I wrote during a timed exercise in her pre-conference workshop. After I read it she said… “Nice! There are agents in the room. Stand up. I want everyone to see you Felicia.” I was sitting on the floor in front because I was taking photos. If you knew Sandi, you would know why this is a big deal to me. She is amazing and very hard to please. The task was to write 3-4 sentences describing King Kong’s love (without calling it love) for the blonde the first time he held her in his hand. Here is what I wrote: “The animal in him melted away with the brush of her pale skin. A tingle ran through the thick palm of his hand. Years in the jungle had not hardened him enough to deny the softness of her face.” This evening she told me I’m a good writer. She heard other stuff I wrote during the workshop.

4’ish~ I had a meeting with CB McKenzie and sealed a deal. I’ll start working on an author web site and promotional material for him soon.

6’ish~ Got to hang with my two law enforcement buddies who are also writers and regulars at the conference. Betsy (lieutenant and spokeswoman in Oklahoma) and Sana (an officer in Texas). Both woman are originally from New Mexico. I just love Betsy. She kicks ass.

7’ish~ Watched some awesome videographies created by the Film School students of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. The Screen hosted a short film screening and panel presentation moderated by Justin Golding. It was about bringing a novel to the big screen. The panel included Melinda Snodgrass, David Morrell, and Kirk Ellis, who have all had their writing featured on the big screen and TV. I loved that Ellis said… “Our job as writers is to make shit up!”

It was a good day! Gotta get up super early tomorrow so I’m going to bed early. The new book/new author breakfast starts at 7:30am.

Creepy Mirror

October 1, 2014

image

I finished the creepy mirror for our Halloween party at work. It was fun to make. One of my friends asked me if I could creep it out for her. She knew that she came to the right place for the creative creepiness. Haha!

Today we met for a bit to go over party ideas and food. I’m excited to work on an idea I had for the party. My corner of the Pinion is sure to be dark…just like I like it. Yesterday I bought a bunch of stuff to use.

I also got hooked up by another friend (thank you 🙂 you) with a grippa sweet software apps. Imma dabble in sum Adobe After Effects tonight. Looks like it will be an all nighter! I’m designing the party invite and I’m thinking a moving image! Maybe!?!

The Punisher ~vs~ Red Hood

September 5, 2014

Commmmmeeee on Red Hood! You looked like a total weakling in this video. Maybe I’ll be Red Hood next year for Halloween. By then, my guns will be bigger than both these dudes! The awesome Batinthesun can hire me to play Red Hood and refilm this vid for their YouTube channel. Nawww…that wouldn’t work at all. The Red Hood eventually becomes The Joker. Maybe I’m just mad?! Or maybe I’m just a joke?! ~~~~~F

The Dynamic Buzz!

Well the guys over at Batinthesun’s YouTube channel have created another Super Power Beat Down this round its The Punisher vs Red Hood!

Na…Na…Man…That shizz is fire!

July 16, 2014

This jam is absolute fire! I have been feeling this song, but I like it even more now that I have the video on my pod. This may be the best music video I have seen in a while. The imagery is hot •• Hot •• HOT! Let me clarify that…super *H•O•T*!! Though…it’s to bad the video lyrics don’t follow the “dirty version.”

I do love me some sweaty peeps working out! When Trey Songz’s woman comes back in the end of the video in camo shorts to train him…it is awesome!!! Love that final scene!! Gotta love Trigga Trey~ bringing that fire back. They were actually working out in the video, but I wish Trey would have actually benched 225 for at least 15 reps. Sad face. Haha!!

The Real 47 Ronin and Star Crossed Love

April 13, 2014

image

~~★The witch in her dragon form.★~~
……………………………..
Just finished watching 47 Ronin. It was an awesome flick for sure. I started looking into the true story behind these samurai warriors tonight. It’s fascinating and I will surely write about this sometime soon. I learned tonight that fictionalized accounts of the 47 are called Chūshingura, though I assume this story is technically historical fiction. I need to do research to confirm that. These men were brave souls. I saw photos of their real graves online.

I love me some movies which feature culture, weapons, bravery, demons, spirits, witches, spells, and tragic/star crossed lovers. The movie was a tribute to the actual Ronin, but I also continue to wonder what truth is behind the love story which permeated the film. Was there really a half breed and a beautiful princess in this story? Is it true that Kai sacrificed his own life to save her life and restore honor to his people? People who gave him no respect until the very end?

~~★The supernatural spider infused with witch breath and Lord Kira’s blood.★~~
……………………………..
There were three scenes I really liked. The first was when the witch uses a spider to poison Lord Asano. The evil witch seamlessly floats into the Lord’s room to drive him mad. She weaves around magically then hovers upside down above his bed while he sleeps. With crazy hair curling about looking like spider legs, she releases a supernatural spider infused with her breath and Lord Kira’s blood. The spider crawls across Lord Asano’s lips leaving a trail of glowing poison which seeps into his mouth.

Another scene I liked featured the witch becoming a dragon with no extremities. I adore dragons. The graphics in this scene were amazing! Critics who say otherwise know nothing about the artists and processing power needed to drive such a scene. The digital fight scene was choreographed well. When the witch was killed by Kai, the tail of the dragon shrunk back into her flowing gown. She laid dying on the ground. I also loved that her eyes were two different colors. Of course! I would have liked to see more spells in this movie for sure.

Maybe I am a hopeless romantic, but what can I say? I like to see the rise, fall and resurrection of an empire hinge on the power of love. It seems that Kai and his Princess, Mika were star crossed since their youth. Even though they couldn’t be together, they cared deeply for one another and vowed to find one another in another life. Before his death, Mika told Kai “my father told me, this world was only a preparation for the next. That all we can ask is that we leave it having loved and being loved.” He told her “I will search for you through a thousand worlds and 10,000 lifetimes until I find you.” With tears she replied “I will wait for you in all of them.” Lovely!

~~★Kai and Mika★~~
……………………………..
If you haven’t seen 47 Ronin, I would say it’s worth a watch. It is a story about honor, bravery, magic and love. It would also be great to honor the real samurai warriors by taking some time to learn about their real story and sacrifice. I know as a lover of history and records, I will take time to learn more about these brave samurai warriors. This page on the 47 Ronin is a great place to learn about the real story.
