Jason Momoa did New Zealand’s Haka ritual as his audition for ‘Game of Thrones’

Awesome!!! I want to visit New Zealand some day. It would be cool to see Jason M perform the Haka battle ritual, but I want to see real Maori warriors. ~~~F

For The Win

Game of Thrones fans will recognize Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo, the physically massive and usually grunting Dothraki warlord who made such an impression in Season One.

In this YouTube clip from 2012, which is just now making the rounds today because who knows how the internet works, Momoa auditions for the show by doing the Haka, an old Maori ritual typically performed before battle.

You all know it as what the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team does before games.

Momoa isn’t a Kiwi — he is from Hawaii — but he clearly nailed it, got the part, and the rest is history.
